Lets look at the lake: Swim at our sand beach, or fish in the 20-acre lake, most times having it all to yourself (No public access, only one other full time resident). The original inhabitants of this area to get from one fishing camp to another, at one time, used Chippewa Trail. Archeological digs at one end of the road show that various tribes have fished this area for thousands of years.

Jacks Lake is the highest in the area and has many natural springs. The lake survey shows two pockets of 50'+ depth, and being "upstream" means not having to deal with run-off that turns other lakes green in the summer.

There's a small airport in Bloomer, about 15 miles from here. We're about 2 hours from the Twin Cities area, 42 miles from Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

We have been off grid for over 25 years and put all the good ideas into this home so it produces most of its own heat and electricity. The cost of back-up fuels is very moderate: There are several years worth of wood cut down and ready to buck up, so if you use the outside wood boiler there is no cost for back-up heat. We do have a high-efficiency gas boiler and a space heater should you not want to burn wood. There is 200 gallons of diesel, which should take care of your back up electricity for at least 10 years. Which leaves LP, we use about 250 gallons a year.

The main structure was built 1988-89, B&B rooms finished 1992, shop-garage 1997, new wind system and 600 watts more in PV's 1998, second floor east remodeled and spa 2002,new back-up co-generator and batteries 2003. House and out buildings repainted 2004, new deck and paver walks 2006.
