insulation

Why do earth homes need insulation when the earth is covering the home and sides? Believe it or not the earth itself is a poor insulator. For example one foot of earth has the insulating value of R2. But here is the oddity. The earth actually helps slow down temperature changes which is one of its great benefits. But when insulation is used alongside the earth the temperature inside the home will stay close to the same temperature year around saving on energy costs.

Aspen Aerogels-This is an incredible insulator. Thin, very lightweight and based on nanotechnology.

~Autonomous House-Aerogel panels-Despite being very brittle aerogel makes a wonderful insulator. It would be useful sandwiched between panes of glass or lexan for your house or greenhouse.

Insulation-What is the optimum thickness you will need for your home? Here are some right and wrong values to show you how some bad builders cheat people.

KC Panels-Ever hear of stress skin panel homes? It refers to the fact that the wall and roof panels carry all the load themselves. They need no framing or other supporting structure. This makes construction simple for do-it-yourselfers.

Nanogel-Eco insulation for day lighting. (Aerogel is not totally translucent and does reduce sunlight by up to 50% or more) One, two, three, four,

NANSULATE, patented technology, is a revolutionary breakthrough in the science of thermal insulation. Nansulate™ liquid applied insulation and rust inhibitor is a premium industrial grade rust proofing protective coating containing Hydro-NM-Oxide, which is documented the best insulating material on the planet...by far

Reflectix-Here is a press release on this insulating material.

Thermal Insulation-The "ultimate" example of vacuum insulation is the Dewar's Flask, commonly known as a Thermos bottle. In a Dewar's Flask, no insulation "material" is used at all. Instead, the space between the dual walls of a cylinder is completely (99.999999%) evacuated. With virtually no molecules of gas available to transport heat between the two walls, the "R" value is extremely high - typically R250 or better.

Therm-Max Panels-Providers of Aeroblack the first VIP aerogel monolithic panels made by Foamcore.

Vacuum Super-Insulation Panels-RParts provides high-quality VIPs which hold a consistently strong insulation value of R-28 per inch. With a 15-25 year life span and almost 6x the insulation value of conventional foam, Rparts VIPs are the perfect alternative to ineffectual traditional foams and high-priced aerogel panels.

Reflectix Natural Fiber Duct Liner Now in Blue

Markleville, IN – Reflectix, Inc., introduced a new look for their new natural fiber product. The Reflectix® Natural Fiber Duct Liner, now available in blue, was designed for use in HVAC sheet metal ducts to absorb unwanted noise from multiple sources, to reduce heat loss or gain and to provide low air resistance. The new blue product offers all the same characteristics as the natural white material.

  • The liner, using a patented process that treats each natural fiber with a non toxic, fire, mold, and
  • pest inhibitor and then thermally bonds the fibers to create a safe and sustainable insulation
  • product. Made from natural fibers, the new duct liner contains 85% recycled content and is
  • safe for the environment. The natural fibers used in the duct liner contain excellent sound
  • absorbing qualities. The density of the duct liner product offers performance comparable to
  • fiberglass liners. The air stream surface of the duct liner is covered with a fire resistant black
  • facing that is designed to reduce air flow resistance. Both the insulation and the facing are treated
  • for fire and mold resistance.
  • Other benefits include of the Natural Fiber Duct Liner include: Class A fire rating, IAQ
  • friendly, excellent noise reduction performance, no formaldehyde/fiberglass or harmful
  • chemicals, no itch or skin irritation, easy to handle and install.
  • Reflectix, Inc. manufactures many reflective insulation products used as Duct Insulation, Pipe Wrap, Radiant Floor Heating Insulation, and Concrete Slab Insulation and is the leading manufacturer of reflective insulation for the HVACR, residential, commercial, agricultural and industrial markets.
